Sigur Rós has teamed up with EMI to release their first documentary film and complimentary album, Heima and Hvarf-Heim. Directed by Dean Deblois (Lilo and Stitch), Heima was filmed during the summer of 2006 while Sigur Rós toured the breathtaking terrain of Iceland. A DVD version will be released November 5, and will include a 104 page book “containing stunning photos from the tour.”

Heima, icelandic for ‘homeland’, premiered on September 27 and is being featured in select theaters around the world. Tickets for the premiere in London on October 24 sold out within minutes, and the premiere in Helsinki on September 29 sold out within a few hours.

“Heima had its world premiere at the Reykjavík International Film festival last week. the film was received very well, with a standing ovation at the end and general happy faces in the audience.”

Hvarf-Heim is actually two albums packaged together, each with their own front cover. On one side is Hvarf, icelandic for ‘disappeared’ or ‘haven’, with five re-worked unreleased studio recordings. On the other side is Heim, icelandic for ‘home’, an acoustic album of six songs that Sigur Rós has never performed before. Hljomalind will be released October 22 as the first single for the album.

“Hvarf features three previously absolutely unreleased electric songs (salka, hljomalind and i gaer) and is, anyway, wall-to-wall re-workings.”
Clare Langan from Ireland has created a stunning “unofficial” video for i gaer. In September “the video was screened in a 360 degree tent in Trafalgar Square in London.” A portion of the video can be seen at clarelangan.com.
